Big thanks to Shimano UK who supplied me with an indestructible combination of Ultegra Groupset, Shimano Disc Brakes and Shoes and Pedals for the World Cycle Race.  During the 18,000 miles I replaced…

7 chains

2 sets of pulley wheels

2 sets of cleats

1 cassette

1 set of (front) brake pads

…and that’s it.  Nothing broke or wore out too soon; it was all scheduled maintenance.

Shimano have also supplied me a 1 x 10 XTR transmission and spares for this year’s Tour Divide.  I’ve always wanted to have XTR and it really is as good as it looks.

    Hi Mike,
I have been described as a somewhat naive cyclist for my age (49) who, having listened to a lecture given by Juliana Buhring following her world record is feeling inspired to make a similar attempt. I’m at the very early stages of attempting to plan the logistics side of my trip and wondered if you are doing any talks on the subject?
    Yours with very high regard

      Hi Jacky

I do talks sometimes, I don’t organise my own though, just when someone asks. I haven’t got any planned just yet.
